Well it depends what type of place you're looking for. Here are some that I enjoy. The Beacon Hill Pub - 149 Charles Street It's a bit of a dive bar. Sorta cheap, dark and old looking but filled with recently preppy college graduates of prestigious colleges and universities. The Sail Loft - 80 Atlantic Ave Very small and often crowed. Right on the water. Preppy young professionals. John Harvard's Brew Pub - 33 Dunster Street In cambridge. Hot with the Harvard kids. Good food. Good beer. As simple as that. Clery's - 113 Dartmouth Street Irish bar. Great pizza though. They know how to drink there.

It goes without saying The Bull and Finch. It's the one featured in the old TV show "Cheers".

If you are a fan of the show Cheers, you should go to the Cheers bar. The inside doesn't look anything like on the show (it is on the outside, with the flag and steps going down), but they have suvineers and the burgers are damn good. Plus it is right next to the townhall (cool building), and also a park with tons of cool statues.

A couple of options are Jurys Boston hotel (part of Irish chain) in Back Bay on Berkeley Street has a bar called Cuffs. A couple of blocks over is the Boston Park Plaza where there's a pub called M.J. O'Connors.
